I couldn’t get the condo for the entire stay so I booked the last two nights at the Kauai Inn. As the website says “Step back in time to the Hawaii of yesterday. Tucked away on three tropical acres where the Nawiliwili Bay meets the Huleia River, this charming 48 unit plantation style Inn was the first on Kauai and retains a sleepy old world charm. In the early 60s John Wayne, Lee Marvin and the cast of Dovovans Reef relaxed around the pool sharing stories and adventures with other guests”.The location of the Kauai Inn was perfect for our last two days on the island. It is only a few miles from the airport in an area with several restaurants. After having an appetizer at JJ’s Broiler at Kalapaki Bay we headed out to find the Kauai Inn.
We had some difficulty finding the hotel. I thought that I knew exactly where it was but it turned out I was thinking of another hotel. I stopped and asked a local man and he gave us directions. Even then Densie thought that I was driving the wrong way because you have to go back beyond where the cruise ships and other large ships dock. But we made it and it was a decent place to stay.
We had dinner this night at Duke’s Canoe Club at the Marriott Resort. Duke’s is an open-air restaurant dedicated to surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku. Although Duke’s is in a resort setting it is very popular with the local residents of Kauai.I can’t remember the different types of fresh fish we had that night but here they are. Opah or Ono? And very good the next day for an afternoon snack.
SAUTEED MAC NUT AND HERB CRUSTED Lightly dusted in parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs topped with lemon and caper butter.
