Maui Trip Report – Part 1
Last May (2005) I attended an auction for the MT. Hood Kiwanis Children’s Camp. A coworker of mine is the fund raising chairperson for her Kiwanis club. The camp is for severally disabled children and provides them with a week of out door activities at the camp in the Cascade Mountain foothills. I bid on a week stay at a condo on Maui and “won” it. The price I paid was more than double of what it would have been to rent it myself.
My friend and I both used airline miles to book our flights to Maui. So of course we were at the mercy of the airlines on travel dates. I needed to extend our stay at the condo and the owners were very accommodating. They had to do some shuffling between the two condos they owned but we were able to get the extra nights without having to move.
Denise’s travel dates were August 17 – 26 and mine were August 18 – 28. I expected August to be really hot and humid but it wasn’t bad at all. The temperature was mostly in the high 80s or low 90s with pretty strong trade winds thanks to a hurricane about 800 miles away. There were two days that it was HUMID because the trades stopped.
The condo we stayed in is Kealia Resort. It is the northern most condo complex in Kihei. This was a perfect spot. We had a view of the park next door and the ocean from our condo.
