Sunday was the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Portland. An estimated 45,000 people turned out for Sunday’s Race for the Cure in downtown Portland. I don’t know how many participants there are in other cities but I have heard the Portland race is one of the larger ones. Local radio stations not only have teams they ask local businesses to sponsor their teams. In return the sponsors get exposure on the air, on the radio stations web stream, in the radio emails, and on team T-shirts. I like this additional way to raise money – Can’t make it to the Race? You can Sleep In for the Cure!
I went to Safeway to buy groceries on Sunday and they were playing Melissa Etheridge’s song “I Run”. When the CD was first released Safeway sold it with some of the money going to the Susan G. Komen foundation.
Thankfully my family has no history of cancer of any kind but I do have friends and co-workers who have had breast cancer. Some have won the battle and others have lost the battle.
This is my tribute to those brave women who have fought the battle and WON! You go girlfriends!!!!

Thank you Jackie! I am a breast cancer SURVIVOR and very grateful for each day I am alive. Bilateral mastectomy in 1992, thank goodness my lymph nodes were all cancer free. I was very fortunate. I support the Komen Foundation when I can.
Jan, You are one of the girlfriends that I wrote this for. Thanks goodness your cancer was caught early and you are a survivor!
